STILLWATER VO:
15m 47s
“Ahh, so much beauty around us, isn’t there?”
MALLIKA:
We live in the most beautiful world full of sounds, smells, colors, and different textures. But it is totally normal for all of us to get so busy doing what we need to do that we don’t notice what is happening around us.
Or there are times when we are so focused on a goal – like getting to a game or playdate on time - that we don’t notice the people around us or the wonderful places we may be.
Imagine you are going to a museum to see a painting. You follow a map, focused on finding your treasure. Along the way, there are so many other beautiful paintings but you don’t see them because you are only looking for the one you want to find.
STILLWATER VO:
17 m 53 s
“Sometimes when we put all our focus on one thing everything else can become invisible.”
MALLIKA:
Noticing is a skill that helps you discover, celebrate and learn. Sometimes, you can be in the same place you sit every single day, and not notice what is around you.
STILLWATER VO:
21 m 18 s
“In order to really experience the world, we have to open our senses. Only then are we able to see all the remarkable things around us.”
MALLIKA:
Let’s try something together.
Wherever you are right now, look around you. Maybe you are somewhere familiar like in your bedroom or a classroom. Or perhaps you are somewhere new, and this is your first time looking around.
Where ever you are, look around and name a few things to yourself.
Now, close your eyes.
See if you can still imagine the room. Are there particular things that you remember?
With your eyes closed, let’s see what else you feel about your surroundings.
What do you smell?
What do you hear?
What do you feel on your skin?
Is it hot or cold or does the air feel comfortable?
Do you see anything with your eyes closed?
Take a deep breath, and when you are ready, open your eyes.
Look around again.
Choose one thing around you that now feels different or that you hadn’t noticed before.
As you go about your day, see if you can notice new things around you. You may be surprised at what you see!
