With its beautiful scenery and beaches,
Mexico is a vacation paradise, attracting millions
of visitors every year. Most head to the tropical
resorts of Acapulco and Cancún, but there’s
much more to Mexico than just sun and sand.

Mexico was once home to several ancient

16th century. In 1521, the
Spanish defeated the Aztec
empire and introduced Christianity and the
Spanish language to Mexico.
Many Mayan and Aztec sites have become
popular tourist attractions. Chichén Itzá, an
ancient Mayan city in southern Mexico, is so
impressive that it was recently hosen as one of
the New Seven Wonders of the World. The site
contains hundreds of buildings, including a huge
pyramid called El Castillo and several beautifully
carved temples.
To experience Mexico’s amazing mountain
scenery, you can’t go wrong with a trip to Copper
Canyon. Horseback riding and hiking are popular
activities, but nothing can beat the thrill of
riding “El Chepe.” This tourist train climbs over
7,000 feet, taking passengers through gorgeous,
rocky landscapes. And then there’s Mexico
City, one of the world’s largest and most exciting
cities. Historic buildings stand next to modern
museums, and local restaurants serve delicious
