To help you reduce anxiety, let’s start by taking a moment to relax your body.

Soften any unnecessary tension in your belly and in your shoulders, and find a

posture that feels both relaxed and a little alert.

Now, close your eyes or look downwards and rest your hands in an easy, effortless

way.

Take a few moments to scan your awareness through the sensations of your body,

and, wherever possible, soften and release obvious areas of any physical tension.

Be aware of your body, of your body and breathing, your chest rising and falling with

each breath.

And now, imagine standing out in the street, outside of your house with two heavy

suitcases knowing that one of those suitcases is full of worries about the future, and

the other suitcase is full of regrets about the past.

Take a moment, standing there in the street holding these two heavy suitcases and

let’s reflect about each one:

Let’s reflect about the future, how it’s going to come of its own accord whenever it

comes, and knowing that most of what we worry about will never really happen.

We’re standing there in the street, and now let’s reflect about the past, your other

heavy suitcase. And let’s just consider how the past cannot be changed.

All we can do in the present is to learn from it, and put in place whatever corrections

make sense. We can become more skillful, more diligent. We can make efforts to

become a better person, and move on.

Let’s imagine we’re still standing there in the street, feeling the weight of these two

suitcases, but now we’re absorbing the wisdom of our own reflections and we will

make a conscious decision, right now:

Do you want to drop the suitcase of worry about the future? And if so, simply drop it.

Just drop it there in the street.

So now, we’re standing there in the street with the other suitcase that’s so heavy

about the past, and let’s make a conscious decision about that one:

Do you want to drop it? If so, just drop it.

And as soon as you’ve dropped these two heavy suitcases, turn around and walk back

into your home. Take your seat, sitting right where you are, relaxed, your hands at

ease on your lap. You’re just like someone who’s come home from a long trip, who’s

dropped of their suitcases, and are just relaxing. You’re resting now in the present,

just breathing, and resting in the natural well-being of the parasympathetic nervous

system. You’re resting in the fundamental well-being of awareness itself. Awareness

which does not worry or regret. You’re resting as if this is meaningful for you.

Allow yourself just to simply rest. Feeling a sense of peace, of joy and of well-being.

A natural happiness. Always your true home. Without carrying heavy suitcases of

worries about the future, or full of regrets about the past.

Simply rest here in your body right now with total relaxation throughout your body

and your mind.
