I found the body in the grove,
where I go every day to cut wood.

Through the fog, I saw a flash of blue.
I made my way
past splintered saplings, over trampled ground—
Until I came upon a body
lying in a bed of broken fireweed,

chest, struck through.
The blood had dried,
