Ten Moats Of Damnation (Interlude The Ulysses’ Chant)歌词

Ten Moats Of Damnation (Interlude The Ulysses’ Chant)歌词完整版

No cant or known tongue will serve

the horrors here to preserve.

No words can form in the mind

to describe what here we find.

There’s a place in hell’s dark stone

where horned demons cruelly scourge

Seductors’ backs - how they moan!

Sycophants beat each other,

deep in human excrement,

with their own filth they smother.

Trapped face down with feet aflame

Simoniacs pay the price -

favours sold had been their shame.

Seers are twisted from their necks,

Divine Decrees - truths made false.

In silence, tears bathe buttocks!

Your gold and silver gods –

they too face towards their back.

Eyes burn from constant tears,

hearing the wild whip crack.

Ten fierce demons with their prongs,

wait for Grafters boiled in tar –

corruption had been their wrongs.

In the distance slowly tread

Hypocrites distilled by pain

under robes of gold and lead.

Yet worse – the one impaled,

crucified bare on the ground.

Who must suffer the weight

of those who on him pound.

Reaching next the pit of Thieves,

where fire is the kiss of snakes

they form from dust to receive.

Both in revenge as in ire,

Deceit’s Advisers aflame

cannot flee eternal fire.

“When at last from Circe I departed

and with zeal set sail for lands uncharted,

- past a year held fast on return from Troy,

not even the affection for my boy,

nor pious respect for my father’s life,

nor dear love for Penelope my wife…

could quell within me the burning desire

that I felt to explore the world entire!

Setting forth on the deep with but one plan –

to learn the vices and virtues of man.

So with a single ship I put to sea,

with those men who never abandoned me.

Both Mediterranean coasts I saw.

My fellows and I were yet old and slow

when the then known world we had left behind

and came to where we knew not what we’d find.

Though this marked the end of most men’s voyage,

we sailed onward through the narrow passage

where Hercules set columns in the sound,

to warn men not to sail beyond their bounds.

‘Brothers! Ye who through perils myriad,

at the extremes of the world have arrived.

For you the days still left are counted few

yet there ahead lie dreams you must pursue.

Deny ye not endeavour known to none –

following westward the path of the Sun.

Consider well whence sprung your worthy seed,

from humble origins you have been freed.

You were not born to live the life of a brute,

but rather quest for knowledge and merit!’

So eager for the voyage they became

by my words that nothing could have stopped them.

Hence, to the morning having turned our stern,

our oars like crazy wings made the sea churn.

We began to see at night all the stars

of the Austral plane and the pole of ours

lay too low to rise from the ocean’s floor.

Five bright moons we had seen when to the fore

loomed a mountain, yet dim from a distance,

as high as I e’er saw before or since.

This sight of land we hailed with great relief,

though our nascent joy was soon turned to grief.

For from that rock a mighty whirlwind rose,

relentlessly taking us in its throes,

and smote the prow of our wretched vessel.

On spinning seas three times it made her swell

then at the fourth her stern was made to rise,

our fore faced the depths and our aft the skies,

till over us the ocean’s waves had closed.

And so, as it pleased fate, we were disposed.”

*

From chin to gut by sword slain,

Discord Sowers gush entrails;

wounds sealed are opened again.

O’er the sick a stench lingers,

disease ravaged Alchemists

flay their skin with their fingers.

So it is, seeing dead,

one of them lies up ahead,

holding hair in his hand -

raising his severed head.

Where? Where is the proud? Where?

Whose name rings throughout hell?
